摘要
Topic: Orthodontic treatment for older adults-smile and soft tissue esthetics
Improving the smile as well as occlusion is considered one of the most important treatment objectives in adult orthodontics.  Fortunately, recent developments in the field of orthodontics have broadened the scope of diagnosis and made it possible to induce biomechanically reliable tooth movement in all 3 dimensions.
In general, major proportion of the adult orthodontic population is still limited to younger adults in their 20s. However, along with population ageing the needs and demands for better, healthier smile has dramatically increased regardless of age in the recent years resulting in more “aged” patients in need of orthodontic treatment.
Along with the conventional transverse, sagittal, and vertical relationship, “aging” has long been recognized as the 4th dimension that influences the smile. This presentation will focus on the differences of perception, orthodontic diagnosis, soft and hard tissue outcome, prognosis and clinical managements to improve the smile esthetics between younger and older adult orthodontic patients.
