Xu Qian

人物介绍
Dr. Xu Qian is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She achieved Board Certification and is a Diplomate of American Board of Orthodontics. She earned her dental degree and completed her orthodontic residency with a MS at West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University. Then she completed a PhD in Oral Health Sciences at School of Dentistry, University of Michigan. She completed her second residency with a specialty certificate in Orthodontics at School of Dentistry, University of California, Los Angeles. She teaches students and treats orthodontic patients. She has been invited as a peer-reviewer for over 10 academic journals including American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, European Journal of Orthodontics and The Angle Orthodontist. She has received T. M. Graber Teaching Fellowship Award and her research is funded by American Association of Orthodontists Foundation. Her research interests include tissue engineering of pluripotent stem cells and craniolfacial structures, CBCT and 3D imaging in Orthodontics, and treatment of craniofacial deformity. She has presented her research in multiple international conferences and published in prestigious journals such as Journal of Dental Research, Biomaterials and Stem Cells.

Topic: Tissue engineering in orthodontics: where we are and where we are going (组织工程应用于正畸:现状和展望)
Tissue engineering refers to the practice of combining scaffolds, cells, and biologically active molecules into functional tissues, in order to restore or improve damaged tissues or organs. In the past decade, tissue engineering has become a rapidly growing field, promoted by the many interdisciplinary and translational applications including the repair of oral and craniofacial structures. The objective of this presentation is to provide a brief introduction to the field of tissue engineering, while highlighting the areas of relevance to orthodontics, and outlining the main challenges and opportunities at the junction of these two interdisciplinary fields.
