摘要
Title: What is the reason for the reduced treatment time in the Surgery First approach?
Abstract: Compared with the conventional orthodontics first approach (OF), there are many clear benefits of the Surgery First approach (SF). One of the advantages of SF is the reduced duration of treatment. According to systematic reviews on SF, the total treatment duration of SF is much shorter than that for OF. In our recent survey, the SF group had achieved the desired outcome in about 14 months on average, with the vast majority of the SF cases falling in the 9 months to 15 months range . In the SF approach, tooth movement occurs more rapidly than that of OF due to a consortium of advantages provided by the increased bone turnover by RAP and SAP, the normalized relationship between the jaws and muscles, and the natural spontaneous decompensation of dentition, among others. It is therefore reasonable to claim that orthodontic treatment after orthognathic surgery provides the ultimate acceleration of orthodontic tooth movement.
