Topic: Digital and Artificial Intelligence orthodontics
In the past decade, with the rapid development of computer technology, orthodontics has entered a digital era.  With more and more widely used E-Models based on intra-oral scanning, the traditional orthodontic diagnose based on plaster dental casts has been changed. Analysis has become more accurate and efficient, the treatment objectives has become more clear and visual. More importantly, it has saved a lot of space for storing dental casts and a lot of time to retrieve them.  Furthermore, the application of E- models allows to design and order customised appliance  from remote distance.
At the same time, the development of Cone-Beam CT software, has changed the diagnose of craniofacial deformity and malocclusions from 2-dimensional into 3-dimensional.
Yet with all the high-Tech products, still a lot of work has to be done manually, e.g. the pinpoint of certain anatomic features on digital image, setting up of dental arches for customised braces and aligner, etc.
During the past few years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied on medical image science. The application of artificial intelligence in orthodontic research field has also become a hotspot. After learning from experts database,  AI can be used to fast analyse and diagnose malocclusions independently. Based on the diagnosis information, individualised treatment plans and customised braces can be designed.
KOOA AI orthodontic system, developed by the cooperation between Hong Kong University and Greater Bay Area orthodontists, has drew more and more attention from orthodontist colleagues.  Besides a powerful image processing function of ceph and extra-oral photo, it can also provide intra-oral scan E-model analysis and 3-dimensional cone-beam CT analysis. Clinicians can simply upload patient’s data to website: www.kooa.ai, AI system can automatically analyse, give results of analysis immediately and suggestions on treatment plan.  The future work on this system will be focused on improving the accuracy and validity of image processing, and to provide a more efficient tool for orthodontists.
