Abstract
Topic:  Protocol of Clinical Application of  Micro-implants based on the Malocclusion Mechanics for Vertical Facial Type
Department of Orthidontics,Shanxi Medical University School and Hospital of Stomatology, Taiyuan 030001,China
Abstract:With increased use of Micro-implants widely, its unique advantages in vertical direction control are becoming more and more prominent. However, depending on the vertical facial types , the way of using micro-implant can vary because of different malocclusion mechanisms. The vertical control of high angle case includes posterior teeth and anterior teeth. The posterior vertical control, whether absolutely intrusion  or relatively intrusion (uprighting / preventing extrusion) is necessary for the counterclockwise rotation of  the mandibular plane; Moreover , the vertical control of the anterior teeth including the intrusion and retraction can create conditions for the forward and upward rotation of the mandible, which is the significance of the vertical control of anterior teeth . For patients with low angle, the Micro-implant can open severe deep occlusion by intruding the lower anterior teeth or simultaneously intruding the upper anterior teeth. Therefore, clinicians need to adjust the ratio of intrusion between the anterior teeth and posterior teeth according to different vertical facial types with and without gingival smile, as well as determine the intrusion of upper anterior teeth or lower anterior teeth. This lecture based on the malocclusion mechanics will discuss the design strategies of Micro-implants for different vertical facial types, to make clinicians can better apply the Micro-implant technology.
