Abstract
Topic:Therapeutic design of class II malocclusion with mandibular retrusion based on functional analysis
【Abstract】:Objective To study the effects of posterior occlusal plane( the curve of Spee)leveling of cllass II malocclusion with mandibular retrusion on condylar movement and activity of the closing muscles of the jaws.Method 30 subjects with mandibular retrusion were chosen from the Department of Orthodontics of the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Fujian Medical University. Changes in mandibular condyle movement path were recorded using a computer aided diagnosis axiograph (CADIAX) and TMJ space were recording using Cone Beam Computed Tomography before and after orthodontic treatment, and 3 months after orthodontic treatment. The electromyography was used to test the changes of the masseter muscle, temporalis muscle and medialpterygoid muscle. The changes in masticatory efficiency were measured by spectrophotometry. The data was analyzed by SPSS 22.0 software.Result 1.After the leveling of posterior occlusal plane , the mandibular condyle movement path changed significantly compare to pre-treatment (P<0.05); there was no significant difference compared to the post-treatment and 3 months after treatment (P>0.05).2.After the leveling of posterior occlusal plane,the activity of masseter muscle, temporalis muscle and medialpterygoid muscle increased significantly and the masticatory efficiency also increased , which was statistically different from pre-treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion The posterior occlusal plane leveling can affect the condylar movement and masticatory efficiency of Class II maloccusion with mandibular retrusion .
